Most business owners in Bihar dread the word “GST.” You’ve probably heard stories from other shopkeepers in Boring Road or traders in Marufganj about how confusing the portal is, or how someone got a notice because their photo was too blurry or their address didn’t match their Aadhaar card.
At Bharat License Expert, we get it. Getting a GST number shouldn’t feel like winning a war. Whether you are running a small kirana store, a new startup in Patna, or a manufacturing unit in Hajipur, you need that GSTIN to move forward. Without it, you can’t sell on Amazon, you can’t take big orders from corporate companies, and you certainly can’t claim back the tax you pay to your suppliers.
We are here to take that load off your back. We handle the Bihar State Tax Department’s quirks so you can focus on making sales.
Before you spend a rupee, let’s see if the law even requires you to register. In Bihar, the rules are pretty straightforward but many people get them wrong.
The 40 Lakh Rule for Goods: If you sell physical products (like clothes, electronics, or cement) and your yearly sales go over ₹40 Lakhs, you must register.
The 20 Lakh Rule for Services: If you are a consultant, a web designer, or run a coaching center and your turnover hits ₹20 Lakhs, it’s time to get registered.
The “Inter-State” Trap: This is where most people get caught. If you are sitting in Patna and you sell even a ₹500 item to someone in Jharkhand or West Bengal, you need GST. There is no minimum limit for selling across state lines.
The Online Seller Rule: Planning to sell on Flipkart or Meesho? They won’t even let you create an account without a GST number.
If any of these sound like your business, you need to act now. Waiting until you get a notice from the department usually means paying heavy penalties.
We see it every day. A business owner tries to save a few bucks by filing themselves, and three days later, they get a “Show Cause Notice” or a rejection. Why?
The Address Mess: If the name on your electricity bill is “Ramesh Kumar” but your PAN card says “Ramesh Kumar Singh,” the GST officer might reject it. We know how to fix these mismatches before filing.
Blurry Scans: The government portal is picky. If your photo or your rent agreement scan is even slightly out of focus, they’ll hit the reject button.
Wrong HSN Codes: There are thousands of codes. If you pick the wrong one, you might end up paying more tax than you should, or worse, get flagged for misclassification.
The Map Pointer: The new GST portal asks you to pin your shop’s location on a map. If you miss it by a few meters, it can lead to a physical verification visit from an inspector.
Your PAN Card and Aadhaar Card. A clear passport-size photo (not a selfie with a busy background). Your mobile number (the one linked to your Aadhaar is best).
If you own the shop/office: A copy of the latest electricity bill or property tax receipt. If you are on rent: A rent agreement and the owner’s electricity bill. Pro Tip: If the shop is owned by your father or mother and there’s no rent agreement, don’t worry. We can prepare a "Consent Letter" for them to sign. This is very common in Bihar and works perfectly.
A cancelled cheque or the front page of your passbook showing the IFSC code and account number.
We start by analyzing your business model. Are you a manufacturer? A wholesaler? A retailer? We identify the exact category to ensure you don’t overpay for a license you don't need or under-apply and risk a fine.
We provide you with a customized checklist. You send us the photos/scans, and we handle the formatting, resizing, and professional drafting required for the FoSCoS portal.
Once filed, we don’t just sit back. We track the application status daily. If any clarification (Queries/Observations) is raised by the Food Safety Officer in your district, we respond immediately on your behalf.
Once approved, your FSSAI license is issued digitally. We send you the soft copy and provide guidance on how to display it at your premises as per government rules.
A common mistake many West Bengal food business owners make is applying for a Basic registration when they actually need a State license. This leads to rejected applications and wasted fees. Your category is determined primarily by your annual turnover and the scale of your operations.
You send us the documents. We check them for errors. If something is missing, we tell you right away so we don't waste time.
We generate your TRN and file the main application. We handle the HSN selection and the location tagging.
We don't just wait. We track your ARN (Application Reference Number) every day. If an officer asks a question, we answer it. You just sit back and wait for the PDF certificate to land in your inbox.
Getting the number is the start, not the end. Once you have that 15-digit GSTIN, you have a few new responsibilities:
Put up a Signboard: You must display your GST number on your shop’s board. If an inspector walks by and doesn’t see it, they can fine you.
File Your Returns: Even if you had ZERO sales this month, you must file a “Nil Return.” If you forget, the government charges a daily late fee that adds up fast.
Keep Your Bills: Start keeping all your purchase bills. That “Input Tax Credit” is real money. If you buy ₹1 Lakh worth of stock and pay 18% GST, that ₹18,000 stays in your electronic credit ledger to pay off your future taxes.
Yes! As long as you have a roof over your head and an electricity bill, you can get GST. Distance doesn’t matter because the whole process is online.
No problem. You can register using your personal savings account details first. Once you get your GST certificate, you can take that to the bank and open a current account easily.
In 99% of cases, no. Everything is digital. If the officer wants a physical verification, they will come to your shop, but if your documents are clean, this rarely happens.
Not really. If you are a small business, the cost of filing returns is very low compared to the benefits of being a “legal” business. It’s an investment, not an expense.
